2008 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new for 2008. introductionthe chevrolet malibu nameplate has been around for a long, long time, in all kinds of shapes and sizes. This edition of the malibu shares its underpinnings with the other gm cars mounted on the epsilon front-drive platform, including the new saab 9-3, the new saturn aura, the pontiac g6, the european-market cadillac bls, and the german opel vectra. That's a fine group of cars to be associated with and the malibu is expected to be the biggest seller among them.  chevrolet says it has modified the platform with some extra strength and extra steel in the central tunnel area and the bodysides to help quiet the car and improve its crash performance. More quiet was added with composite inner fenders, thicker glass, and sprayed-on sound insulation throughout the body cavities. Still more quiet was engineered into the induction system, to make the engine sound powerful but quiet at full-throttle and during downshifts. It strikes a nice balance between well-controlled handling and a smooth ride. Overall, the new malibu feels smooth and refined and pleasant to drive.  the cabin is nicely designed, attractive, and everything is easy to operate, and the seats are comfortable.  in short, we think the chevy malibu stands up well when held against the toyota camry and honda accord gold standards. Choosing among them largely comes down to nitpicking, splitting hairs and personal preference. Camry and accord may have an edge on resale value, but they're also likely to come with higher price tags. In any case, we don't see the gap between this chevrolet and the imports that we used to see. lineupthe 2008 chevrolet malibu range includes the ls 19,995), 1lt 20,995) 2lt 22,635), and ltz 26,995), plus the hybrid 22,790). The base model also comes with electric power steering, to saved drag on the engine, while the v6-powered models come with hydraulic power steering.  lt models come with the 3. 6-liter v6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission along with stabilitrak yaw control, 17-inch wheels and tires, dual exhausts and manual shift control.  ltz adds 18-inch alloy wheels and tires, fog lights and clean-lens led taillamps, and comes with a long list of standard equipment items, plus and a higher-capacity six-speed automatic. Stabilitrak electronic stability control comes standard on lt, ltz, and hybrid models and includes brake assist. walkaroundchevrolet has followed an industry-wide trend with the malibu, stretching the wheelbase a full six inches compared to the previous model, to get more interior room for the occupants and a smoother, quieter ride, with an overall length that's only three inches longer, which means the all-new body has the preferred wheels-at-the-corners look.  the malibu looks masculine, brawny, yet clean and crisp. The bodysides are completely clean and uncluttered, and the twin round taillamps pay homage to the corvette. The dual-port grille is a contemporary chevrolet design cue. We think it works better on the silverado, but it gives the malibu a distinctive look, and distinction is the goal of the midsize sedan designer. The mid-level lt trim levels are expected to be the most popular, say gm executives, though the entry level ls-2 is also expected to be popular. This design is brought into the 21st century with wood and metallic trim and a very pleasing blue-on-white instrumentation graphic treatment that's flooded with blue light at night.  less noticeable are thoughtful features such as the ambient lighting. A feature associated with expensive luxury cars recently popularized by mercedes and bmw, ambient lighting helps the driver and front passenger find secondary controls and items around the center console. A cubby on top of the dash is convenient for wallets and such, a useful feature subaru has used for years.  cloth, suede and leather interior options are available. The standard interiors are single color, but several new two-tone interior combinations are available, including a dramatic black-and-saddle leather combination that's very attractive.  we found the leather seats in the ltz quite comfortable. Piping in a contrasting tone dresses them up. The front bucket seats are somewhere between sumptuous and luscious in the way they look and the way they sit, very comfortable and supportive.  the stretch in wheelbase affords each occupant plenty of room, and there is ample headroom and legroom in the rear compartment for six-foot-plus passengers. The backs of the front seats are dished out to add knee room. The rear seatbacks flip down to provide a pass-through to the trunk.  the new cabin includes a dashtop storage bin, door cubbies, and seatback pockets, standard ambient lighting for the overhead console and door-pull pockets. We've never cared for the look of rolled-up sliding covers on center consoles due to their ability to attract crumbs.  overall, the malibu interior is attractive and comfortable. The quality of the interior materials is good. We think it compares well to the cabin of the all-new 2008 honda accord. The quality of the hard plastic on the lower dash in the chevrolet isn't as nice as the material in the honda, and the material on the steering wheel hub is a little nicer on the honda, but it's still nothing to behold. The chevrolet has an attractive leather shift boot on cars with leather interiors is not found in the accord.  every malibu comes with xm satellite radio and the latest version of onstar with turn-by-turn navigation. However, there's no gps navigation system nor is there a back-up camera. Chevrolet says people prefer to use their portable gps units and relatively few want to pay for an oem navigation system, but we're a little skeptical of this.  big knobs and buttons and an elegant design make operating audio and climate functions easy. In fact, we found it easier and less confusing to make adjustments in the malibu than in a comparably equipped (non-navi) honda accord; the honda seems less intuitive and convenient. Unlike the honda, the chevrolet has the audio controls at the top, better because people tend to fiddle with their stereos more than their temperature controls.  climate controls in the malibu are very easy to operate utilizing big knobs for fan and vent modes and simple, clearly labeled buttons. Honda splits the climate controls up, forcing the driver to examine them more closely before pressing a button. Window switches are conveniently mounted on the doors. Redundant controls on the steering wheel are available.  remote starting is available. Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Bucket Seats✔ Leather Seats✔ Navigation System✔ Backup Camera✔ Alloy Wheels

2007 chevrolet silverado 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The all-new next-generation pickups are here. introductionthe all-new chevy silverado is here. Completely redesigned, the new silverado is built on a stiffer chassis. Also very important, the 2007 silverado features an all-new interior that can be outfitted for work or pleasure.  the new silverado is designed to continue its reputation among owners as the 'strongest, most dependable and longest lasting truck on the road.'  the new styling is bold yet still conservative when compared with the latest pickups from dodge, nissan, toyota and ford. While the sheet metal is all new, the main reason the new silverado looks bolder is that it's three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear than the outgoing generation. (the older-generation trucks will continue to be sold as the 2007 silverado classic. Naturally, not all engines  extended cab and crew cab models have back seats and windows in the side doors that power down. The extended cab has rear access doors that are hinged at the rear but that open to 170 degrees to provide full access to the rear seating area.  the standard cab can be outfitted with a standard (6-foot, 6-inch) or long (8-foot) beds. Options include driver and front-seat side-impact air bags, side-curtain airbags, stabilitrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation technology, autotrack active transfer case, ultrasonic rear parking assist, onstar.  option prices vary by trim level and body style. Among them: a cargo management rail system for the truck bed 175), a power sliding sunroof 795), 20-inch wheels 1,295), a power sliding rear window 200), rear-seat entertainment system 1,955), navigation system 2,250), rear-locking differential 395), stabilitrak electronic stability control 425). Accessories such as step rails and chrome exterior trim are available from chevy truck dealers.  note that until production of the all-new 2007 model ramps up, dealers will continue to sell the former version as the 2007 chevrolet silverado classic. This is the previous-generation version and should not be confused with the vehicle covered in this report. walkaroundthe 2007 chevy silverado may not have the aggressive styling of the dodge ram or nissan titan or even the toyota tundra or ford f-150, but its upright design may be considered both bold and appealing to its faithful customers, and they buy hundreds of thousands of silverados each year.  the new design gives the 2007 chevy silverado a taller and stronger appearance than the previous generation. Indeed, the new silverado should look stronger because it's some three inches wider in front and an inch wider in the rear.  however, a more raked windshield (raked at 57 degrees) and careful aerodynamic and body-building engineering make the truck both quieter on the inside and more fuel efficient. Gm boasts that the silverado and gmc sierra are the first full-size trucks to offer both 300 horsepower and 20 miles per gallon on the highway.  the large, gold chevy bowtie badge is set against a wide, three-bar chrome grille. The grille is flanked by stacked headlamps sporting the latest reflector-optics. The front bumper incorporates rectangular fog lamps.  the hood has a wide power dome. Bulging front fenders wrap over the front wheels and incorporate the headlamps within their forward sweep. Likewise, the rear quarter panels are punctuated by large faired wheel wells.  the rear view of the truck features stacked tail lamps on either side of a tall tailgate that has a sculpted center section that mimics and inverts the shape of the fender flares.  built on what general motors calls its gmt900 platform, the silverado shares much of its underpinnings with the tahoe suv, though the pickup truck gets a unique rear frame section that is 245 percent stiffer. Overall, compared to the former gmt800 truck, the frame is 234 percent stiffer torsionally, 62 percent more resistant to bending and 136 percent stiffer laterally. All of this allows such things as reducing the gap between the truck bed and passenger compartment and between fenders and bumpers. It also enhances aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and allows suspension components to provide improved ride and handling characteristics.  the front suspension has switched from torsion bars to coil-over shock absorbers and the rack-and-pinion steering gear is mounted to the engine cross member frame to provide enhanced control and feedback. The truck also has a new rear axle design with shocks absorbers mounted outboard and more upright for better dynamic control. interiorthe silverado wt and lt come with what chevy calls the pure pickup truck interior while the ltz features a more luxurious interior.  the pure pickup interior is more driver oriented, includes two glove boxes in the dashboard, one of them just about the right size to hold a pair of work gloves and a few small items, and a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with the center section of the seat back folding down to form a wide arm rest with lots of storage capacity. This interior also features larger switchgear controls and interior door handles designed to be easily manipulated even while wearing bulky work gloves.  the more luxury-oriented interior includes bucket seats with a permanent center console with 20 liters of storage capacity. The center stack also puts ventilation and audio controls within easy site and reach of the front seat passenger. This version has a single glove box in the dash.  extended cabs feature stadium-style seating with an elevated view for those sitting in the second row. Both the extended cab and crew cab versions offer plenty of rear legroom. The rear seat bottoms can be easily be folded up to provide more room on the floor for cargo. Rear seats are split 60/40 so one side can be folded up for cargo while the other is used for seating.  chevy says the interior of the new sierra is 20 percent quieter than its predecessor, thanks to enhanced insulation materials, much like those used in the company's sport utility vehicles, and to aerodynamic improvements that reduce wind noise. driving impressionwe've driven two versions of the all-new 2007 chevy silverado on paved and gravel roads in the desert west and north of phoenix. Later we got into the more upscale version of the lt with an extended cab and standard bed, same v8 engine and same z85 suspension. But it also was sure-footed and the v8 provided more than sufficient. Bucket Seats✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ AM/FM✔ CD Changer✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ CD Player✔ Aluminum Wheels

2006 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The retrowagon gets a facelift. introductionthe 2006 chrysler pt cruiser features its first significant facelift in six years. Inside and out, the new look is best described as more modern, but not so much so as to spoil the pt's toy-hot-rod fun.  chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. It doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments.  the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. It comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a two-door convertible.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is shorter in length than a neon, making it easy to park. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense.  pricier turbocharged models add fire under the hood. For 2006, the fire has been turned up to 230 horsepower in the gt model. A more affordable 180-horsepower turbo is also available.  the convertible is one of the least expensive on the market. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 27,930) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies, and for '06 its 17-inch wheels are chrome-plated, just like the sedan's.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a new boston acoustics premium sound system (replacing last year's infinity system), but retaining the same 368-watt peak output. Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models this year 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895) for the vintage town & country look. Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions, including the rear center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. T. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's or early 1940's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look has been refined for the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. Chrysler says the pt cruiser now has the face of chrysler, which seems to translate into a more horizontal-themed grille that no longer extends down below the bumper, topped by a more prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights now frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a new body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon. Yet with 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser sedan is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's certainly lower, by almost 3 inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design. With the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. Pretty cool.  drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. Less obvious improvements for 2006: all instruments are now bigger, the radio is mounted higher, the glovebox is larger, and the glovebox door is now damped.  the driver still faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 120. Window switches are still high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the new boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  a redesigned center console now incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The new console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a new coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee.

2012 chrysler 300 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Whether v6 or v8 and regardless of model it's a roomy, comfortable, quiet cruiser. Some new models have joined the lineup for 2012: a stylish chrysler 300s, the new chrysler 300c luxury series, and a new chrysler 300 srt8 super-sedan.  the chrysler 300s is a sportier 300, with 20-inch wheels and firmer suspension.  2012 chrysler 300 v6 models offer a new 8-speed automatic transmission from zf that makes the hemi v8-powered car nearly irrelevant. With this new transmission, the v6 gets an epa-estimated 31 mpg highway.  a new, optional navigation system is the best we've ever seen, with a large, 8. 4-inch screen that's easily understood at a glance and easy to operate. We highly recommend opting for it. Also new for 2012 are the usual assortment of color and wheel design upgrades, and not one but new sound system upgrades.  the chrysler 300 has all the heritage traits of an american luxury sedan such as room, comfort, endless features and amenities, power and a degree of presence, yet is also has good road manners, stops and changes directions as well as it goes. It also has a distinctive look ever harder to find in this era of economy-driven aerodynamics, pedestrian impact standards and corporate styling.  all-wheel drive is available. The ride height on 2012 chrysler 300 awd models is slightly lower than on 2011 models.  the chrysler 300 comes in nearly any combination of v6 or v8 engine, 5- or 8-speed automatic, and rear- or all-wheel drive.  the 2012 chrysler 300 srt8 model comes packed with a 470-hp 6. 4-liter v8 (only a corvette zo6's is larger), brembo brakes, forged alloy wheels, and bilstein adaptive dampers similar to those maserati uses. It's quick and good bang for the buck.  consideration for the chrysler 300 covers a wide spectrum including the cadillac cts, lincoln mks, lexus gs, infiniti m, hyundai genesis, volvo s60, bmw 3 series by price or 5 series by size, and mercedes c and e classes for the same criteria. A 300c awd can compete with ford's taurus sho. At about $47,000, the srt8 is a cost-effective sports sedan alternative to cadillac's cts-v, bmw's m-cars and mercedes-benz's amg e-class. Available for any 300 are ivory pearl paint 500) and an engine-block heater 40). (all prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice.)  chrysler 300 limited 32,170) upgrades to leather upholstery, 8-speed automatic, remote start, fog lamps, 18-inch wheels, 276-watt alpine audio system, power passenger seat, and heated front seats. Chrysler 300 limited awd 34,320) features all-wheel drive, bigger brakes and 19-inch wheels. The luxury group 3,250) includes fancier leather, olive wood trim, heated/cooled front seats and cupholders, heated rear seats, wood and leather wrapped heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, power adjustable pedals, driver memory system, power rear sunshade and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. A safetytec package 2,420) adds adaptive cruise control with collision warning, adaptive bi-xenon smartbeam headlamps, blind-spot and cross-path detection, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear park sensors, and rear fog lamps.  chrysler 300c 38,170) and 300c awd 40,320) come with a 363-hp 5. 7-liter v8, 5-speed automatic and bigger brakes. Standard equipment mirrors the 300 limited with luxury group and navigation, but with olive wood optional. Also available: premium audio systems, safetytec package, moonroof, 19 and 20-inch wheels.  chrysler 300s comes with a choice of v6 8-speed automatic 33,170) with awd 35,320); v8 5-speed automatic 39,710) with awd 41,320). S denotes body-color trim with gloss-black grille and headlight trim, matte carbon and piano-black cabin trim, 300s logo on cloth (v6) or leather (v8) seats, and the beats by dr. The s v8 also gets rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers, and performance-tuned steering. 300s options include uconnect with 8. 4-inch touch screen, garmin navigation, sirius travel link with real time traffic and sirius satellite radio 795).  chrysler 300 srt8 47,170) comes with a 470-hp 6. 4-liter v8, five-speed automatic, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, bilstein adaptive damping, and unique suspension and stability control calibration, brakes and tires. It also includes new nose and tail sections, sport seats with suede inserts, srt-specific instrumentation and driver information, and a one-day driving experience on track with professional driver instruction. Srt8 carries a $1,000 federal gas guzzler tax.  safety equipment on the chrysler 300 includes front, front side, driver knee, and side curtain air bags, electronic stability control with brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring system. The optional safetytec package groups several safety features together. Optional all-wheel drive improves stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe front of the chrysler 300 looks like a large sedan version of the chrysler 200 midsize sedan and town & country minivan, with many of the same visual cues in the grille, headlamps, air intakes and front bumper. It's much sleeker and more rounded at the nose, but carries a much lower aerodynamic drag coefficient because of the rounded elements and the very laid-back windshield angle. Neither the windshield nor the rear window carries any bright moldings at all, unusual for a luxury car, but it works on the 300.  on the s and srt versions a gloss-black grille and headlight housings framed against monochrome bodywork; it's hard to imagine understated and menacing applied to the same car but that's how it looks. Add in big dark wheels and the s and srt versions deliver the aggressiveness of an amg e-class or cadillac cts-v with more elegant machinery like a bentley gt. We have mixed feelings about the styling, especially that of the 300 srt8. It looks like an upscale hot rod, but we're not sure it quite pulls it off. The styling seems to work best on the standard models.  the profile of the chrysler 300 shows pronounced wheel lips front and rear, and they are connected by a sharp body line that starts at the trailing edge of the front wheel well and rises continuously to finish at the side of the tail lamps. That line, coupled with the larger side windows, narrower pillars, and another sculpted line at the bottom of the doors, does wonders to slim down and muscle up the look of the 300.  at the rear, there's a chrome bar running across the bottom edge of the decklid between the new vertical led taillamps and a tall, flat rear bumper between the exhaust outlets that widens the look of the car at the rear. The execution of the led daytime running lights at the front and the led rear lamps is excellent. The s and srt have deeper panels and a lip spoiler for stability. One of the more pleasant surprises in the chrysler 300 is the amount of light entering the car.  the interior environment is classy without being fussy, and the led lighting and instrumentation are spot-on. Upholstery can be cloth, leather, or suede and leather on srt8 and trim is faux wood, real wood, carbon-fiber or piano black lacquer style; interior adornment is generally matte-finish chrome so annoying reflections are minimal.  the instrument panel contains a bright gauge package, with crisp graphics and ice-blue accent lighting that is brilliantly legible day or night.  the center stack is dominated by a large (8. 4-inch) touch-screen control system, with audio and climate functions. Optional is a brilliantly colorful, large-icon garmin navigation system. This system, because of its size, graphics, and capabilities, may be the best all-around nav system currently available, easy to read, easy to use, and often readable from the back seat. We highly recommend it. Turn onto beaver brook road and in big type at the top of the screen it says, 'driving on beaver brook road.' we love it.  the 300's new fo. 2012 chevrolet traverse review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The chevrolet traverse crossover utility vehicle combines the smooth ride and responsive handling of a car with the cargo capability and high seating position of a traditional truck-based sport utility vehicle. The well-equipped interior features two front bucket seats and two different seating configurations for the second and third row seats, accommodating a maximum of eight passengers. An efficient, direct injection 3. 6-liter v6 engine is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. The traverse comes in three trim levels: the ls, the lt and the ltz. Each trim is available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. An extensive list of safety features come standard; these include: side curtain overhead airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for driver and front-seat passenger, anti-lock brakes, and electronic traction and stability control. The traverse carries-on for 2012 with minimal changes. Anti-lock Brakes✔ Bucket Seats

New hybrid model added to lineup. introductionthe next-generation chevy tahoe lineup was rolled out for the 2007 model year and it's among the best of the full-size suvs. For 2008, a new gas-saving hybrid model has been added.  the chevy tahoe has been the best-selling vehicle in its category since 2001, accounting for more than 25 percent of all full-size suv registrations in the united states, and it's easy to understand why. It hauls loads of passengers and gear, it can pull heavy trailers, and it holds up well to abuse and rugged terrain.  tahoe can accommodate five to nine passengers, and the first two rows offer spacious, even luxurious, seating. A properly equipped tahoe is rated to tow up to 8,200 pounds; based on the same platform as the suburban and silverado, the tahoe makes a stable rig for pulling trailers.  with its rigid chassis, the tahoe feels taut, the steering is precise and responsive, and the brakes are responsive and smooth. The ride quality is generally smooth, even with the available 20-inch wheels. The 5. 3-liter v8 provides all the power most customers will need, and there's a less-expensive 4. 8-liter v8 available.  the new hybrid model works seamlessly. It comes in handy for rugged terrain and serious snow and ice, but it's also handy for yanking a boat up a slippery boat ramp or pulling a trailer out of a silty, sandy parking area, those momentary needs that can be so crucial.  be they families with children, empty-nest couples with active lifestyles or individuals who simply have cargo to carry securely or trailers to tow, some people really do need the all-weather practicality of a full-size sport utility vehicle. For those who need to tow, the tahoe is a fine choice. Those who don't tow might be better served by one of the big, new crossover suvs, such as the gmc acadia. lineupthe 2008 chevy tahoe comes ls, lt, and ltz trim levels, plus the new hybrid model. The base engine in the 2wd ls model is a 295-hp 4. 8-liter v8. The base lt-1 package comes with a cargo shade, front bucket seats, front center console, color-keyed door handles, fog lamps, rear audio controls with headphone jacks; and onstar's directions and connections plan which includes audible directions. The lt-2 package 2,095) upgrades with leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control with rear controls, power-adjustable pedals, remote engine starting, six-disc cd changer, ultrasonic rear park assist and a universal garage door opener. The hybrid system makes 332 horsepower and 367 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid model is equipped much like the lt-3, but also has a locking rear differential, rearview camera, a navigation system with touch screen, three-passenger split folding third-row seat; and p265/65r18 tires on alloy wheels. Compared to the lt-3, the hybrid does not come standard with fog lamps, roof rails, six-disc cd changer, power adjustable pedals, or front recovery hooks.  options include navigation 2,250), dvd entertainment system 1,295), sunroof 995), and rearview camera 250) when the separate navigation system is ordered. The sun, entertainment and destinations package 3,790) includes the navigation system, rearview camera, rear dvd entertainment, and sunroof. The z71 off-road suspens. walkaroundthe chevy tahoe features a clean design with rounded lines, fully wrapped front fascia that eliminates air-grabbing gaps, doors that wrap over the rocker panels, and a steeply raked windshield.  the result of the streamlined body is optimal fuel economy, according to gm. Automotive engineers judge wind-cheating aerodynamics by a factor known as the coefficient of drag. The lower the number, the slicker the vehicle. The tahoe has a cd of 0. 363. And the hybrid model is even more slippery, with a cd of 0. 34. For comparison, the smaller but extremely sporty porsche cayenne emerges from the wind tunnel at a less slippery 0. 38.  up front, the tahoe features a clean interpretation of chevrolet's two-tier front grille with a central bowtie logo. Tow hook openings flank the license plate frame and they are, in turn, flanked by fog lights. The sides of the tahoe have little ornamentation, yielding a smooth design. Tall side glass allows for an unobstructed view of the road. And at the rear, the liftgate has separate opening glass to offer easier loading of small items.  the smooth appearance doesn't mean the tahoe looks soft. Built on a wide frame, this is a commanding vehicle with a strong stance. A bulging hood enhances its visual strength. Further boosting the muscular look are standard 17-inch wheels, with 18s and 20s available.  the ltz model can be distinguished by its standard 20-inch polished aluminum wheels and use of chrome accents on the door handles and grille inserts.  the hybrid model has several distinct characteristics. To reduce weight and drag, the front end features an aluminum hood, a lowered air dam, a slightly larger grille opening, and blocked off fog light and tow hook openings. Along the sides, the running boards are tapered front and rear for improved aerodynamics and the wheel flares are slightly reshaped. At the back, the rear pillars and center high-mounted stoplight have a unique shape, the tailgate is made of aluminum and has fixed glass, and led taillights replace the standard bulbs. The wheels are more aero efficient and the tires have a lower rolling resistance. The spare tire and jack have been replaced by a tire inflation kit. interiorthe chevy tahoe instrument panel and center stack are cleanly designed and easy to use. The gauge cluster is attractive and informative, dominated by the large, easy-to-read tachometer and speedometer in black with blue numbers. Oil pressure, volt meter and water temperature gauges are also standard, providing data many other vehicles leave to warning lights.  while largely plastic, the dash materials are finished well and fit together with tight tolerances. With the available leather upholstery, the look is upscale. Small items storage space is abundant, with a large center console, map pockets in the doors, a big glovebox and a handy tray below the center stack.  new for 2008, the hybrid gets its own gauge cluster with a special tachometer and an economy gauge. The economy gauge has a green bar that represents a zone drivers can aim for to maximize fuel economy. The tachometer has an auto stop reading to indicate when the gasoline engine is shut off. The hybrid comes standard with a navigation system and a 6. 5-inch screen that also shows a graphic representation of the hybrid system's power flow. Like in toyota products, this screen shows if the power i.

2009 toyota corolla review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, bigger and roomier. introductionthe 2009 toyota corolla is a new car, the 10th generation of the world's most popular passenger car. More than 30 million have been sold in more than 140 different countries. It feels more like a small car than an econobox, as much a smaller camry as anything else. Upgrading to the corolla le includes power windows and door locks. Finally, there are two sportier models, the corolla s which looks the part and has some seat and chassis upgrades, and the corolla xrs which brings a bigger engine, brakes, and tires to the party.  no matter the model, the toyota corolla is a hop-in-and-go kind of car. The standard model, simply called corolla, is the least expensive yet includes fabric upholstery, air conditioning, cd/wma/mp3 xm-ready radio, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, six-way manual driver seat, 60/40 split folding rear seat, outside temperature gauge, power mirrors, and engine immobilizer. Six airbags and abs are standard. Options are the same as the standard, plus 16-inch alloy wheels and remote keyless entry.  xle is the lux-like corolla, and builds on le with 16-inch steel wheels and covers, wood grain trim, optitron instruments, variable intermittent wipers, sliding lid center console, keyless entry, seatback pockets and better radio. The option list swells to include those above not standard, plus moonroof, alloy wheels, eight-speaker jbl audio system, and navigation, though the latter two can not be combined.  the s is the economy sporting model, with color-matched spoilers, fog lamps, black headlight housings, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and sport front seats the upgrades from the base model. Options are extensive and include everything mentioned for standard, le, xle, and leather upholstery.  xrs is the top of the line. It's upgraded with the 2. 4-liter engine, wider, 17-inch tires on alloy wheels, electronic stability control, trunk spoiler, rear disc brakes, strut tower brace, optitron gauges, cruise, leather shifter and steering wheel, and chrome interior accents. Heated mirrors, two radio upgrades, navigation, power locks/windows, moonroof, and leather upholstery are among the options.  safety features that come standard on all corolla models include six airbags: dual frontal, front side-impact (for torso protection), and side curtain airbags (for head protection). Electronic stability control and traction control are optional and we recommend getting them. The light housings are the most similar, driven by both styling heritage and modern safety standards, the shoulders over the wheel openings are more pronounced, and the roofline as it drops behind the rear door is more formal. However, it's immediately recognizable as a toyota, and from behind as a corolla.  messing with success is difficult, so after selling more than 30 million corollas around the world toyota kept the update conservative. Others will appreciate the simple lines. Those same simple lines help keep collision repair prices from extremes, which means lower insurance rates.  both the s and xrs receive different lower nose and tail sections, the area around the fog lamps bearing a distant similarity to the lexus is, and trunk spoilers. It's a look that works better on the xrs by virtue of its larger wheels. It also works best on darker colors because the added panels appear more integrated. Fit and finish both appear to a high level for such an inexpensive car.  the basis for the corolla also forms the base of the matrix, and the all-new 2009 pontiac vibe. The corolla is within a few inches of most of its competitors, the mistubishi lancer being among the longer and the honda civic amongst the shorter. Nissan sentra is noticeably taller and bigger, but the nissan versa is as likely to face off against lesser-priced corolla models. interiorwith such a large audience, the 2009 toyota corolla skips the fringes and focuses on a pleasant interior designed more to offend no one than to excite just a few. Hop in and everything seems rental car simple without the all-too-frequent guilt that comes from not popping for an upgrade from this week's special. As one example, the cloth upholstery appears two-tone at first between bolsters and cushions, but it's just an illusion caused by the texturing.  materials and patterns are understated, speaking to the practical side without ignoring basic needs for tactile comfort, and they vary appropriately by model. The wood grain trim on the xle adds warmth not often seen in compacts and helps break up color monotony. We're surprised that the leather upholstery option, available on the s and xrs models with their sport seats, is not offered on the xle, especially since some competitors like honda's civic do. On the other hand, the other trims aren't subject to glare reflections that the faux wood is.  a conventional dash frames speed and engine revs with fuel and ancillary data, the xle and xrs employing electroluminescent optitron gauges popularized by lexus for utmost clarity. Controls used often are on the tilt/telescoping steering column stalks, with others on dash and center stack. Front seats mix comfort and ease of entry and egress nicely, though the sporting models' heavier bolsters will be appreciated by anyone not shopping at the big 'n tall store. Space of 12. 3 cubic foot is about average and isn't hindered by black boxes and big speakers hanging down under the back window. 2011 toyota camry review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Most popular midsize sedan. introductionthe toyota camry is not only the most popular midsize car in america, it's been the best-selling passenger car in this country for the last eight years and 12 of the last 13. It does everything very well and is known for its quality, reliability and resale value. It's comfortable, easy to operate and an easy car to live with in a hectic world. It's pleasant to drive in all circumstances.  the camry seats five in comfort yet it's relatively compact and easy to park. It's smooth and quiet, but it can accelerate with vigor. Its cabin is attractive, functional and refined, while its styling is aerodynamic and shows vitality.  a wide range of models runs from the well-equipped base camry to the near-luxury camry xle. In between are the popular camry le, a modest step up from the base and available with the v6, and the se, decked out with suspension, tires and trim to please the sporty crowd. Equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (vvt-i), it's rated at 169 horsepower for the camry, le and xle trim levels and 179 horsepower for the sporty se. Camry v6 models get a 268-horspower 3. 5-liter engine and a six-speed automatic with manual shift feature, and it delivers plenty of response and performance, along with silky smoothness.  standard vehicle stability control (vsc) with traction control regulates engine output and brake application to help maintain control on slippery surfaces. The hybrid is equipped with the vehicle dynamics integrated management (vdim) system that helps manage traction and stability through throttle control and brake application, and can even deliver minor steering correction if circumstances require.  for 2011, lower-rolling-resistance tires for the v6 models increase epa fuel economy ratings from the previous 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway to 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway for the 2011 camry.  since its debut in the united states well over two decades ago, the camry has earned a reputation for smart design, pleasing function, great build quality and long-term durability. The toyota camry remains the benchmark by which its competitors are judged. lineupthe 2011 toyota camry comes in base, le, sporty se, luxury-equipped xle, and the camry hybrid. The base camry 19,595) comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning and pollen filter, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, manual tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, a multi-function information display with outside temperature, a 160-watt stereo with six speakers, single cd player and auxiliary jack for mp3 devices, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat and 16-inch steel wheels. The camry le 21,050) and le v6 24,765) add an eight-way power driver's seat and remote keyless entry.  the camry se 22,365) and se v6 26,040) add a firmer, lowered suspension, flashy styling cues, unique interior trim, fog lights and p215/55r17 tires on 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels.  the camry xle 26,125) features glossy wood-grain interior trim and comes standard with the automatic. Xle models add dual-zone auto climate control with an electronic ion filter, a jbl audio upgrade with 440 watts, 6cd changer, bluetooth wireless telephone interface, power passenger seat, power sunroof, split 40/20/40 reclining rear seat, rear reading lamps, manual rear-window sunshade, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The electric motor augments the gas engine's performance and captures energy that would otherwise be wasted as the car slows and brakes, so it can reduce fuel consumption substantially. Stand-alone options include power tilt/slide sunroof 890), leather package for se v6 1,210) and hybrid 1,295), heated front seats 440), auto-dimming rearview mirror 150), heated outside mirrors 30), and 16-inch alloy wheels 410). Not all options are available for all trim levels.  safety features on all camrys include a full complement of airbags: dual-stage front airbags, a driver's-knee airbag, upper body-protecting side-impact airbags for front passengers, and head-protecting side air curtains for the front and rear seats. All models come with anti-lock brakes (abs), which aid steering control during a panic stop. The abs features brake assist, which applies the brakes more forcefully and consistently when it senses the onset of a panic stop, and electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), which balances brake application front and rear for optimal stopping distance. A tire-pressure monitor is standard, and vehicle stability control with traction control is standard on all camrys except the hybrid. walkaroundthe camry's front end is the boldest design element, with sharp points, curving cut lines and entertaining surface planes. The hood dips broadly through the middle, pushing visual heft out over the front fenders. There's a toyota emblem above horizontal slats. The single-piece fascia blends all the diverse elements into a smooth aerodynamic look that's several steps away from looking like just another midsize sedan.  the side view is less fashionable and somewhat bulky looking, with a high beltline, symmetrical windows and square doors, graced with a barely discernible character line running through flush-mounted door handles. The wheel openings are circular, which on a car with a lower profile might suggest sporty intentions. On the camry, they draw attention to the expanse of sheet metal between them, and instead whisper sedate.  the rear end, which looks somewhat like a miniaturized copy of the squared-off trunk lid of the bmw 7 series, finishes the side profile. That bustle-like hump gives the trailing edge of the trunk a slight aero-lip that suggests it's there to reduce rear lift at high speeds. An oversize toyota emblem perches atop the license plate recess. The taillamps repeat the theme of the headlamps and are nicely detailed. The bumper wraps around the back end, capping the corners beneath the taillights and sweeping into a soft, horizontal indentation that, on the v6-equipped models, finishes in cutouts for the chrome-tipped dual exhausts.  the camry se is the easiest model to distinguish, and perhaps the boldest of all. The inference of aero treatment on the trunk lid is boosted on the se with a true spoiler. A full body kit flares the lower edge of the car outward, emphasizing the sport model's lower ride height. Six-spoke, 17-inch aluminum wheels fill those circular wheel wells nicely.  there's aerodynamic massaging not obvious to the eye, particularly on the sport-tuned se and the other specialty camry, the hybrid. Engineers focused on making the underbody as flat as possible to smooth airflow under the car and reduce noise.  on the se, they also tuned the flow to balance downforce, or the aerodynamic force that presses the car to the pavement, nearly equally over the front and rear tires.  with the camry hybrid, the aerodynamic focus was on efficiency. Unique wheel spats and underbelly pans reduce the coefficient of drag (cd) to a low 0. 27. While the outside has been touched with a splash of pizzazz, the inside has been brushed with shades of elegance. The treatment is not quite up to, say, lexus-level luxury, but, especially in the top-of-the-line xle, this camry sets a high bar on interior polish for mid-price, mid-size sedans.  the cabin is trimmed with a brushed metallic finish in the base, le, se, and hybrid. Real-looking glossy wood grain is used inside the xle, including surrounds for the door-release handles.  the fabric upholstery combines breathable, waffle-texture insets with smooth bolsters and backing. The leather upgrade isn't quite kid glove, but it feels expensive. On the less positive side, the hard plastic covering the roof pillars looks cheap, and the mouse fur headliner disappoints.  the camry is a roomy sedan, with comfortable seats front and rear, though the seat bottoms are short on thigh support for taller occupants. Rear-seat passengers in the xle enjoy a luxury rarely seen in this class: reclining seatbacks.  the sloping hood delivers good sightlines from the driver's seat. The thick c-pillar (that part of the body supporting the roof behind the rear doors), looks less imposing to the driver than from outside the car. Low-profile rear-seat head restraints leave the view in the rearview mirror mostly unblocked. Outside mirrors are placed farther rearward than we'd like, forcing a turn of the head for quick checks instead of just glancing sideways.  almost everything inside the camry speaks refined function. The speedometer and tachometer are large, circular and easy to scan, save for brief periods at dusk and under certain types of street lighting, when the luminescent instruments on all but the se can wash out.

2010 nissan maxima review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. These are sports sedans, but with edgier styling and first-rate performance and handling, and the maxima is one of the best.  the maxima was engineered, built, tuned and aimed at drivers who prefer sporty handling and a firmer ride as opposed to the softer, more luxurious rides associated with many cars in this class.  the maxima competes with the acura tl, infiniti g, cadillac cts, toyota avalon, as well as deluxe versions of the toyota camry and honda accord.  the nissan maxima features a notably wide track, which helps the chassis handle the corners on its big tires. The maxima shares its chassis and underpinnings with the other cars and suvs mounted on the nissan front-drive platform, including the murano and altima; the maxima is close in physical measurements to the altima. For the maxima, the platform is measurably stiffer. Sport and premium package versions use a large steel panel behind the rear seat to connect the floor, walls and package shelf into a single unit that, according to nissan, is up to 17 percent stiffer than the base model, all aimed at sharper handling. Sport versions add a brace across the front suspension towers for greater stiffness and steering precision.  changes for the 2010 model year are minor. There are new finishes for the 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, a bluetooth hands-free phone system is standard, xm satellite radio is standard on the sv trim level, the previous ipod connectivity is changed to usb connectivity, and there are two new exterior colors. In addition, there is a new optional monitor package, which includes a seven-inch color monitor, rearview monitor, auxiliary audio-video input jack, ipod net and 2gb music server. The technology package gains dvd playback capability, streaming audio via bluetooth, and xm navweather. lineupthe 2010 nissan maxima range consists of two models, the s and the sv. They are powered by a 3. 5-liter dohc v6 engine and come with nissan's xtronic cvt. The technology package 1,850) features the nissan hard drive navigation system with voice-recognition, 9. 3gb music box hard drive, xm navtraffic and xm navweather, and seven-inch touch-screen color monitor.  stand-alone options include the cold package 400) with heated front seats, outside mirrors and steering wheel; hid headlights 400); a rear spoiler 370); and 19-inch high-performance summer tires. Accessories for both models include floor mats and a trunk mat, splash guards, and a trunk sub-floor organizer with first aid kit and emergency kit.  safety features include dual-stage frontal, side-impact and side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, vehicle dynamic control (electronic stability control), traction control, and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundthe maxima has a distinctive look that places it within nissan styling themes but at the same time gives it an appearance that is all its own.  every exterior body panel on the car shows adventurous and modern design and shaping. The grille, headlamps and 12-led taillamps are large and fit well into the whole exterior design, and the fenders and hood have edges and bulges for a very sporty appearance. The wheel arches are pronounced, and the door skins are pulled in from the fenders and flattened out so that the whole body has what the designers call a coke-bottle shape, with a short nose, a short deck, a long, sloping roof and a bmw-style c-pillar curvature.  the maxima is a great looking, assertive sedan with high style and fine detailing, and it doesn't look like anything else in the nissan lineup. interiorinside the maxima, the design, materials, and execution of the interior are first-rate throughout.  the interior features of the maxima are all about concentration of controls and information around the driver. The floor shifter is located over to the left, for those who want quick shifts using the stick instead of the paddles.  the driver's seat is multi-adjustable, especially in the sport package version that we drove, and very huggy and comfortable.  in the rear compartment, the seat can be ordered either as a 60/40 fold-down for cargo hauling, or as a fixed seat with a cargo pass-through in the center for occasional hauling or ski trips. driving impressionthe nissan maxima comes with a very strong, very responsive 3. 5-liter v6 engine. At 290 horsepower, the maxima's v6 is right at the top of the class in terms of power development for its size, but it's not peaky or cranky because the valve and intake systems keep it optimized for whatever gear and rev range. The engine is rated at 290 horsepower at 6400 rpm and 261 pound-feet of torque at 4400 rpm. The continuously variable transmission, or cvt, includes a manual mode so different drive ratios can be selected.  we found the engine smooth and quiet, right up to the 6200 rpm redline, and it delivered plenty of punch throughout the rev range. According to nissan, the xtronic cvt software contains more than 700 shifting algorithms to cope with every driving situation in every gear from idle to full-throttle, and the transmission can shift 30 percent faster than a human. In the sport drive mode, the shifts were lightning quick, and included a very sporty throttle blip on every downshift.  the front-drive maxima has six engine mounts, and the engine is mounted quite low in the chassis for a lower center of gravity and better handling. The suspension uses aluminum components, and a geometry chosen for handling capabilities. The front-drive system has virtually no torque-steer, even on full throttle.  we found the nissan maxima sv sport always felt agile, glued to the road and ready to play, with no hint of harshness in the ride.  the speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering system is shared with the 350z sports car, and it makes the driver feel truly connected, truly part of the steering and driving process, and it's never over-boosted. The abs brakes have vented rotors both front and rear, for superior fade-resistance and added braking power under severe conditions.  the only time this maxima gets sporty and rorty is when the engine intake system switches o.

2013 chevrolet malibu review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new midsize sedan is smooth and refined. introductionthe chevrolet malibu is completely redesigned and re-engineered for the 2013 model year and the 2013 malibu is a winner, delivering a smooth ride, responsive handling, cabin comfort and ease of use. It looks both modern and nicely understated; the stylists resisted the temptation to go lady gaga just to attract attention.  the interior, like the exterior, is handsome and, for a chevrolet, pleasingly elegant. The luxury level of this chevrolet seems almost buick, though drawn with a much freer hand. Obviously, having the mission of standing out all around the world has not hurt chevrolet's styling vocabulary in the least.  but the minute we drove the 2013 malibu eco around a fast bend, we knew we were driving a new kind of chevrolet. It's a family car, to be sure, filled with all the familiar keynotes that define mid-size chevrolet sedans. But in the same moment, it is a far more roadable vehicle than the malibus of five or ten years ago. A proper driver's car communicates precisely what the driving conditions are, and serious lapses in driver feedback have ever been a shortcoming not only of non-corvette chevrolets but most american cruisers. Yet very suddenly, the new malibu is a genuine contender in the world driver's car sweepstakes. It's not perfect; the more expensive sports-sedan marketers, after all, have had decades' more experience at fine-tuning their cars' behavior. But this chevrolet family sedan has made a truly remarkable move in their direction. It is a genuinely rewarding car to drive. The result is vigorous over-the-road performance, achieved while also registering very high highway mileage.  the 2013 malibu eco is a sleek new mild-hybrid package that is reasonably roomy, handsomely styled, and most of all, a convincing contemporary american rendering of the world car. The 2013 chevrolet malibu eco mild hybrid is debuting simultaneously in the u. Though general motors has long paid lip service to the concept of world cars, very suddenly in 2012, it is a world car company and will be judged by world-car standards. Rearview camera is optional. walkarounda quick way to understand the new looks of the 2013 chevrolet malibu is to consider its competition: the midsize toyota camry, honda accord, ford fusion, and hyundai sonata. Malibu's nicely integrated modernism puts it well in range of them. It has a sleek, coupe-like profile without sacrificing too much rear seat headroom to the sloping roofline, as some higher end sedans do.  the 2013 malibu is 4. 5-inches shorter than the previous-generation version, and its front and rear track are two inches wider, for a more stable package.  at the nose of the malibu are two main horizontal grille ports and a lower intake containing very advanced aerodynamic shutters, among the first in this economical category. These shutters automatically close to decrease drag and increase fuel mileage at higher speeds. Conversely, they automatically open at lower speeds, when climbing or hauling a trailer, improving cooling. When appropriate, the upper grille closes to redirect airflow over the hood, further decreasing aerodynamic drag. The outside mirrors are also designed for minimum aerodynamic drag, as are the taillights. Finally, heretofore found only on luxury cars, the malibu has underbody panels that create smooth airflow and reduce drag beneath the car. Chevrolet estimates the malibu's coefficient of drag at a very low 0. 30. First rate.  the malibu's nose is high in order to meet current european safety standards for pedestrian impact. The idea is for the nose to collapse progressively but not so completely as to direct the pedestrian at the engine's solid cylinder head.  the muscular malibu's nose flows nicely rearward without an excess of character lines, ending in a concisely modeled tail that is somehow volvo-like. Chrome highlights the side-window frames, brightening the profile, which is punctuated by wide door cuts for easy ingress and egress.  the trunk is opened with a button in the center-high-mounted-stoplight or the key fob and has a high lift-over. Space is severely encroached upon by the battery pack for the engine's e-assist system. The trunk is, by far, the smallest in its class. interiorthe first impression of the malibu's interior requires but one word: lavish. It's downright un-chevrolet. The dashboard and trim are dynamic and modern, with a strongly contrasting dark boomerang of soft-touch dark leather arranged against a broad sable background, the dark leather framing all the functional controls and hardware. Flashes of chrome highlight the door handles and window controls, console and gearshift, but the center stack is framed in understated earth tones.

2010 lincoln mkz review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Improvements make for a solid entry-luxury sedan. introductionthe 2010 lincoln mkz is a five-passenger luxury sedan that illustrates lincoln's ambition to make cars that equal or exceed lexus and acura in quality, driving dynamics, technology and features.  we think lincoln has succeeded. The mxz is an undeniably pleasant car to occupy and operate. It is a mid-size car with a spacious, understated interior, and a well-balanced combination of ride comfort and easy handling. The mxz retains the traditional domestic notions of practicality and comfort, such as a large trunk, ample leg and hip room front and rear, and builds on it with an infusion of sound proofing, safety technology and audio capable of shock and awe. A sports suspension package and all-wheel drive are available for sportier handling and all-weather capability.  while driving the mkz, we found it stable and calm through the corners. It has a driving performance envelope that overlaps that of sporty cars. The v6 revs to 6750 rpm and we found engine and transmission responsive when called upon. The mkz is more of a luxury car than a sporty car, but it can do 0-60 in 7. 1 seconds, which is fairly quick.  for 2010, mkz has been upgraded. An all-new interior design results in a plusher, quieter cabin with higher quality fit and finish. Improved performance comes from a retuned 3. 5-liter v6 and a new six-speed automatic. The suspension has been tuned for improved ride and handling. The available all-wheel-drive system has been retuned for better traction and lower noise, vibration and harshness. The styling has been updated with a new front end, a new decklid with led taillamps. The mkz is the successor to the lincoln zephyr, launched as a 2006 model.  the 2010 mkz looks decidedly similar to the lincoln flagship mks. The navigation package 2,495) includes voice-activated navigation system cd/dvd/mp3 player, internal hard drive for map, 10gb music jukebox, sirius travel link, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert, rear-view camera.  safety features include dual front air bags, front and rear side impact air bags, and front and rear side curtain airbags; advancetrac with electronic stability control (esc); sos post-crash alert; traction control; tire pressure monitoring system; anti-lock braking system (abs); child safety locks (rear) latch car-seat belt system; reverse sensing system. Optional safety features include all-wheel drive, rearview camera, blind spot information system with cross traffic alert. walkaroundthe mkz clearly borrows lincoln design cues from other vehicles in the brand, sharing the strong split-wing grille, high compound headlamps and prominent placement of the lincoln star on the front quarter panels. In the mkz, the grille is slightly narrower, and the lines somewhat more fluid than the more rigidly defined, cast-in-concrete bodywork of its big brother, the mks. The front grille, in particular, is designed to create a distinct presence in the company of other cars; a high belt line adds a look of substance and heft.  there is judicious use of chrome on the door handles, fog lamp bezels, moldings, mirrors and exhaust tips. Window glass is solar tinted. Led tail lamps are wide and broad, extending across the rear deck and into the quarter panels, adding further emphasis to a wide stance. All-season radial tires on nine-spoke, 17-inch wheels are visually proportionate to the wheel wells and wheelbase.  the end result is a strong lincoln family resemblance both coming and going, and a car that appears modern, technically endowed, and well planted.  ford and lincoln have begun to introduce capless refueling systems under the brand name easyfuel. We've found it works well and creates one less thing to lose: the fuel cap. interiorthe lincoln mkz interior has a conservative design sensibility, conveying the virtues of simplicity. There is a distinct lack of clutter for a car with a complete suite of convenience features and technology.  seating might be the best part of the interior. The seats are generously wide, allowing easy entry and exit, both up front and to the rear seating area. They are 10-way adjustable, with power lumbar, and have heated/cooled seating surfaces as standard equipment. Armrests are wide and well placed, and functional grab handles are located at every door.  quality materials are evident. The wood is real wood, the aluminum is real aluminum, and the leather is real leather. Plastic, what there is of it, has been well textured and does not suggest that it will appear cheap two years down the line. Controls and buttons are low relief, within easy reach, and remarkably intuitive. The navigation screen, at 8 inches, could be a little bigger but it's well located at the top of the center stack and the software makes use of the entire screen.  instrumentation, consistent with the rest of the interior, includes speedometer and tach, a message center, with low oil pressure indicator. A universal garage door opener is standard.  there is also a voice-activated hands-free in-car communication and entertainment system developed by ford and microsoft. The system integrates bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and digital media players for hands-free phone and music selection. It also enables further communications, such as 911 assist and vehicle health report, which are provided with no monthly fees.  the standard audio system, with nine speakers and cd/mp3 play capability, will be perfectly suitable for most drivers, especially considering how quiet the mkz is inside. However, there is a 10-speaker thx ii surround sound system that has a 10-gigabite hard drive, enough for 2400 mp3 tracks, and plays dvds with home-theater sound depth. We can attest to the fact that it can play music or movies at very high volume without distorting, and that the sound in the back seat is just as good as the sound up front. driving impressionwe had a day driving an mkz prototype in southern california, from laguna beach to lake elsinore on the infamous ortega highway. The ortega highway is a two-lane mountain pass, well known for falling rocks and frequent driver-error-induced accidents as it snakes along the side of a deep canyon. That gave us a chance to notice how the mkz behaves in everyday driving. That means we had a power moonroof, the premium thx ii audio, the navigation package and more.  with the engine running, the cabin of the mkz is conspicuously quiet, which helps create an atmosphere of sanctuary inside. There are some road surfaces that bring through a little more tire noise than others, but throughout the day it was possible to maintain conversation at normal speaking tones, and listen to the news at very low volume. Lincoln spokesmen told us that the cabin is quieter than the lexus es 350 at speed and on rough roads, and that they have data to prove it. We looked at their charts and while the measuring criteria are rather complex, the bottom line is very simple. Still, the awd system alone was a tangible handling benefit as we powered through corners, with no apparent torque steer or sense of biasing from wheel to wheel. The car stays flat and composed when pushed into a corner, tracking cle.
